?? Los peregrinos de hoy, los vagabundos del pasado<\/span><\/h3>\n

Una se\u00f1ora de ochenta a\u00f1os recuerda su infancia y nos est\u00e1 contando la perspectiva que el pueblo compart\u00eda con respecto a los peregrinos en esa altura. Describe c\u00f3mo, con diez a\u00f1os ya, en el camino de su casa para repartir la leche a las se\u00f1oras de Tuy antes de irse a la escuela, se encontraba de vez en cuando con alg\u00fan peregrino.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMe acuerdo que los peregrinos pasaban hoy uno, ma\u00f1ana otro, o por la tarde otro\u2026 Pero era uno cada d\u00eda o cada noche y la gente dec\u00eda que era un <\/span><\/i>\u201crufino\u201d<\/span><\/i>. Lo dec\u00edan con desprecio, pero la cosa fue evolucionando y empez\u00f3 a venir la gente. De aquella nosotros los consider\u00e1bamos como vagabundos.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Los peregrinos se consideraban unas personas vagabundas, como si fueran pobres, porque no se sab\u00eda que era una peregrinaci\u00f3n religiosa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPor aquel entonces no (se sab\u00eda); ellos s\u00ed que lo sab\u00edan, pero la gente que los ve\u00eda no. Ellos iban de peregrinaci\u00f3n, ellos sab\u00edan lo que hac\u00edan, pero nosotros no.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Se cuenta c\u00f3mo se iban <\/span>\u201cCon aquellas capas, vestidos\u201d<\/span><\/i> y que la gente se preguntaba \u201c\u00bfd\u00f3nde ir\u00e1n?\u201d, pero no estaban en contacto con ellos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNadie les hac\u00eda caso\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

-Ya te digo porque antes los peregrinos tambi\u00e9n iban pidiendo para que les dieran de comer<\/span><\/p>\n

-Claro ir\u00edan a lo justo, pero yo no hablo de eso, yo antes ven\u00eda a Tui a dejar la leche y me marchaba, y los ve\u00eda sentados en una puerta, no los ve\u00eda pedir.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 hizo que la gente cambiara de opini\u00f3n con respecto a los peregrinos, seg\u00fan los lugare\u00f1os?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Que en los a\u00f1os venideros, los medios de comunicaci\u00f3n (principalmente la radio as\u00ed como las noticias difundidas en el cine antes de la proyecci\u00f3n de la pel\u00edcula) brindaron mayor informaci\u00f3n y difusi\u00f3n sobre lo que es la peregrinaci\u00f3n. Esta explicaci\u00f3n provoc\u00f3 el cambio de actitud hacia los peregrinos; un cambio que hoy en d\u00eda es cada vez m\u00e1s capitalizado y comercializado.<\/span><\/p>\n

??\u00a0Contemporary pilgrims, the vagabonds of the past<\/strong><\/h4>\n

An eighty-year-old lady remembers her childhood and she is describing the perspective that the town shared regarding the pilgrims in those days. She describes how, on her way from home to distribute the milk to the ladies of Tuy, she would encounter every now and then some pilgrim:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I remember that one would pass by, another tomorrow, or another in the afternoon, the pilgrims, but there was one every day or every night and people said he was a <\/span><\/i>“rufino”, a vagabond<\/span><\/i>. They said it with contempt\u2026 Yet things evolved and more people started coming. However, at that time we considered them as vagabonds.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Pilgrims were considered as vagabonds, as if they were poor, because the masses were not familiar with the concept of pilgrimage.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt that time no (pilgrimage was not known). They went on pilgrimage, they knew what they were doing; we didn’t.”<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

It is recalled how they left “<\/span>dressed in those capes<\/span><\/i>” and that people wondered “where would they be going?”, yet no one was in contact with them.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo one paid attention to them\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

-I already told you because before the pilgrims were also asking to be fed<\/span><\/p>\n

-Of course they would go to the right thing, but I don’t talk about that, I used to come to Tui to leave the milk and I left, and I saw them sitting in a door, I didn’t see them asking.<\/span><\/p>\n

What made people change their minds about pilgrims, according to locals?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the locals, in the years to come, the media (mainly the radio as well as the news broadcast in the cinema before the screening of the film) provided more information and dissemination about what pilgrimage is.
