When I arrived, the yard of the albergue was full with tents because on that weekend they had a festa do pan de Neda (bread festival in Neda). I got my stamp and started walking towards Fene. It was quite warm that time so it was a little bit hard to walk up the hills but I didn’t lose my motivation. When I reached Fene, I stepped into a bar and asked for another stamp. Then I started walking to Pontedeume. This was the easiest route for me because I had walked that route many times before. The time flew so fast and I arrived in Pontedeume. I wanted to get another stamp there from the albergue, but it was closed the time I arrived there and I had to go to the tourism information centre. After getting my stamp, I sat down and ate a little bit. I wanted to rest for about 30 minutes, but I felt so useless just sitting there and I wanted to continue the journey. I still had so much energy inside of me so I just started walking again. Unfortunately, I lost my way for a little while and couldn’t find any yellow arrows. After looking around for some time, I found my way again. The way was uphill and it was the hottest time of the day. This was the first time I noticed that I had some blisters under my feet. I had to change my running shoes to flip-flops. I walked up the hill and the view was really beautiful from up there. After about 10 minutes of walking, I saw a stand with apples and water behind one fence. I put some coins into the box and took one apple. The apple was almost as good as my favorite sort of apples in Estonia.

I walked about 2 kilometers in flip-flops and then changed back to running shoes. It was painful at first but later I got used to that and didn’t even notice the pain. Every time I was about to lose my motivation, I saw some horses and seeing them made me motivated again. Finally, I reached Betanzos around 7 PM. I went to the albergue and met two really nice Spanish girls. We went out to eat the famous Spanish omelet/ liquid tortilla and bought some ice cream later. The girls were so sweet and gave me plasters, bandages and other medicine for my blisters and muscles. I am forever grateful to them.

– Day-2 –

I woke up at 6 AM and started getting ready for my second day on the Camino. At first, my plan was to leave the albergue at 6:20, but since it was still so dark outside, I decided to leave a little bit later. One older Spanish couple also got up at the same time as me and they gave me some cream to rub on my feet to prevent more blisters. They were so nice and although we didn’t speak the same language, we understood each other. I went out at 6:45 and started walking. The streets were empty and it was still so dark outside. I continued walking up the streets. At one point, there was a road going uphill with some houses on the side of the road. No one was there and it looked a little bit creepy. Suddenly, I reached a point, where there were no more lights and the road went into the darkness. I decided not to continue and wait for some pilgrims to pass by. After about 20-30 minutes of waiting, one group of pilgrims passed by. I asked if it’s okay if I join them. They were really sweet and asked if I was okay. We walked together for quite a while and talked a lot. I was so happy that I met them because they were really nice and it was so nice talking to them. Then I continued walking alone, because I wanted to reach Santiago by the end of the day.

On the way, I met a lot of Spanish pilgrims and they were so nice and we had small talk. At one point, the road was going uphill and there I met one dog. The dog had no owner but he had a collar on him. He accompanied me for some time and it was so nice, because I didn’t see a lot of animals when I started walking on the second day. After a long time of walking, I reached Bruma. I wanted to get a stamp from the albergue there but they were closed. Then I found one bar that was open and I got one stamp from there. I didn’t feel like resting and the weather was quite rainy so I started walking towards Sigüeiro.

On the way, I met one kind German guy who lended me his walking sticks. It was nice talking to him. About 30 kilometers before Santiago, the German guy left for the albergue and I kept walking forward. After walking for a long time, I reached Sigüeiro and got my stamp from a local bar. I still didn’t want to rest and decided to walk the last lap to Santiago right away. The weather was rainy all day, but about 10 kilometers before Santiago it started to rain even more heavily. Earlier, it was just a light rain. The road continued in the woods. About 8 kilometers before the destination, the view was so beautiful. It was rainy and foggy and the mountains were grey in the background. Since it was quite late, it started getting darker and darker. So, I was walking in the forest at night with rain pouring down from the sky. My phone’s battery was dying and I was lucky that I reached my albergue before the battery was totally dead. I was so tired by the end of the day and even the receptionist in the albergue asked me if I’m dying. It was so nice to arrive in Santiago and go to my warm room after shivering in the rain. The next day, my blisters were quite bad, but I managed to go and get my Compostela.

It was a totally new experience for me. I got to challenge myself and see how much I can walk in one day. I am used to walking in Estonia, because the land is flat there. Here in Spain, there are many hills- ups and downs. I was also so pleasantly surprised by the kindness and hospitality of the people on the Camino. They were giving me bandages and plasters and other medicine for my blisters and muscles. They were also so nice and everyone I met cheered on me. After I made it to Santiago, I also wrote to some of the people that I met on the way, that I finished the Camino and they were congratulating me. It was such a nice experience and I met so many nice people.

The interesting thing for me was that my head is always packed with thoughts.
