??\u00a0On the 8th of September we had the opportunity to try what it’s like to walk the camino for people with disabilities. We had three different tasks: walking blindly, with crutches and in a wheelchair, but also as a support person for the previously mentioned roles.<\/p>\n
From my experience, the most difficult part was to walk the camino blindly. I felt a bit claustrophobic and unsafe at some places – for example crossing a river or walking downhill or knowing there are ditches on both sides of the road, even though the support person was great.

\nThe wheelchair part wasn’t that bad, but we did find some difficulties. For example getting into the albergue or getting water from the fountain. Also the Arzua town is not really wheelchair friendly and because of that I can’t even imagine how difficult it must be on the forest roads.<\/p>\n

Walking with crutches was also quite challenging for me because it was my first time trying them. But they were way more\u00a0 manoeuvrable than the wheelchair so that was good.<\/p>\n
I now also understand the stress behind being a support person for blind people. I felt a lot of responsibility to make sure the “blind” person doesn’t get hurt.<\/p>\n
?? El 8 de septiembre tuvimos la oportunidad de probar c\u00f3mo es hacer el camino para personas con alguna discapacidad. Ten\u00edamos tres tareas diferentes: caminar a ciegas, con muletas y en silla de ruedas, pero tambi\u00e9n como persona de apoyo para los roles mencionados anteriormente.<\/p>\n
Desde mi experiencia, la parte m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil fue hacer el camino a ciegas. Me sent\u00ed un poco claustrof\u00f3bica e insegura en algunos lugares, por ejemplo, cruzar un r\u00edo, caminar cuesta abajo o saber que hay zanjas a ambos lados de la carretera, a pesar de que la persona que me apoy\u00f3 fue excelente.<\/p>\n
La parte de la silla de ruedas no estuvo tan mal, pero encontramos algunas dificultades. Por ejemplo entrar al albergue o sacar agua de la fuente. Adem\u00e1s, el pueblo de Arz\u00faa no es realmente apto para sillas de ruedas y por eso ni siquiera puedo imaginar lo dif\u00edcil que debe ser en los caminos del bosque.<\/p>\n
Caminar con muletas tambi\u00e9n fue bastante desafiante para m\u00ed porque era la primera vez que las probaba. Pero eran mucho m\u00e1s maniobrables que la silla de ruedas, as\u00ed que estaba bien.<\/p>\n
Ahora tambi\u00e9n entiendo el estr\u00e9s que hay detr\u00e1s de ser una persona de apoyo para las personas ciegas. Sent\u00ed mucha responsabilidad de asegurarme de que la persona “ciega” no se lastime.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
