??\u00a0After almost a 16-hour-journey, me and the other Estonian volunteers arrived in Santiago<\/strong>. It was late at night and already September 2nd. Everyone had already probably met, yet there we were, with our big suitcases welcomed by the lovely Santiago<\/strong> (yes, our mentor’s name is like the town). We were all in desperate need of a shower and pillow<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I was excited for the next 4 days. I was looking forward to meeting everyone, exploring the area and getting a better understanding of why I, and everyone else, was here. First meetings are usually a little bit awkward. You make some weird eye contact and do small talk, yet I felt comfortable with everyone already after a few training sessions and conversations around the lunch table.<\/p>\n

During our exploring, Anni found a fig tree. It was my first time eating one straight from the tree.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Our first 4 days were filled with different games and sessions in order to get to know one another, the project, and what is expected from us. At the same time, getting a good understanding of what I expect from myself<\/strong>. It’s a new country, foreign language, different people, new customs and traditions.<\/p>\n

On our third day we all drove to central Santiago. I was amazed right away. The town is beautiful, buzzing, and has this special energy. Our 5-minute-walk from the bus took us to Santiago de Compostela cathedral<\/strong>, where we were met by hundreds of pilgrims<\/strong>. Celebrating. All in their own beautiful way. One group was dancing and jumping with joy, others were laying on the ground, both exhausted and content. It gave me a better insight into what Santiago was to many people. The pilgrimage can have various meanings and be motivated by all kinds of reasons.<\/p>\n

During our culture night, the Estonian team introduced the others to some interesting cuisine, such as black bread with fish.<\/p><\/div>\n

I left Santiago with Diana, Natalia, Giulia and Dafni for Baleira. But about that next time…<\/p>\n

Until then, I hope these two months will be my own camino. <\/em>A camino of acceptance, diversity, understanding, travel, with highs and lows, disappointments and joy.<\/p>\n

??\u00a0Despu\u00e9s de casi 16 horas de viaje, yo y los otros voluntarios estonios llegamos a Santiago. Era tarde en la noche y ya el 2 de septiembre. Probablemente todos ya se hab\u00edan conocido, pero all\u00ed est\u00e1bamos, con nuestras grandes maletas recibidas por el encantador Santiago (s\u00ed, el nombre de nuestro mentor es como el pueblo). Todos necesit\u00e1bamos desesperadamente una ducha y una almohada.<\/p>\n

Estaba emocionado por los pr\u00f3ximos 4 d\u00edas. Ten\u00eda muchas ganas de conocer a todos, explorar el \u00e1rea y comprender mejor por qu\u00e9 yo y todos los dem\u00e1s est\u00e1bamos aqu\u00ed. Las primeras reuniones suelen ser un poco inc\u00f3modas. Haces un extra\u00f1o contacto visual y charlas triviales, pero ya me sent\u00eda c\u00f3modo con todos despu\u00e9s de algunas sesiones de entrenamiento y conversaciones alrededor de la mesa del almuerzo.<\/p>\n

Nuestros primeros 4 d\u00edas estuvieron llenos de diferentes juegos y sesiones para conocernos, el proyecto y lo que se espera de nosotros. Al mismo tiempo, obtener una buena comprensi\u00f3n de lo que espero de m\u00ed mismo. Es un nuevo pa\u00eds, idioma extranjero, gente diferente, nuevas costumbres y tradiciones.<\/p>\n

En nuestro tercer d\u00eda, todos manejamos hasta el centro de Santiago. Me qued\u00e9 asombrado de inmediato. La ciudad es hermosa, bulliciosa y tiene una energ\u00eda especial. Nuestra caminata de 5 minutos desde el autob\u00fas nos llev\u00f3 a la catedral de Santiago de Compostela, donde nos recibieron cientos de peregrinos. celebrando. Todo a su manera hermosa. Un grupo bailaba y saltaba de alegr\u00eda, otros yac\u00edan en el suelo, ambos exhaustos y contentos. Me dio una mejor idea de lo que Santiago era para muchas personas. La peregrinaci\u00f3n puede tener varios significados y estar motivada por todo tipo de motivos.<\/p>\n
