Recuerdan que los ancianos en aquel entonces ni siquiera alcanzar\u00edan la edad que ellas mismas tienen ahora. Incluso si lo hicieran, eran &#8220;<em>muy mayores de apariencia<\/em>&#8220;; la ropa y su cara y cuerpo completamente arrugados los har\u00edan parecer mucho mayores. <em>\u201cUna persona de 70 a\u00f1os era extremadamente vieja en aquel entonces\u201d<\/em>. <em><strong>\u201cSe era muy viejo muy pronto \u201d<\/strong><\/em>, afirman. <em><strong>\u201cDicen que cuando te casabas te volv\u00edas vieja \u201d.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">M. compara el estado de su madre a los 72 a\u00f1os con su edad y le resulta inconcebible: <em>\u201cSoy plenamente consciente de que tengo 70 a\u00f1os, pero me considero joven. Le pregunto a mi hermana mayor si alguna vez ha recordado a mi madre joven\u00a0 y me dice que nunca. Toda mi vida recuerdo a mi madre arrugada con su pa\u00f1uelito\u2026 la pobre ten\u00eda incontinencia y no ten\u00eda pa\u00f1ales, no ten\u00eda nada, se mov\u00eda y meaba por todos lados\u2026\u201d<\/em> recuerda con l\u00e1grimas en los ojos. \u201c<em>Mi madre se me fue viejita a los 72 a\u00f1os. Mi madre era vieja\u201d.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No se les olvide comparar: Los hombres siempre ten\u00edan su ropa de buena calidad limpia y \u201cbien planchadita\u201d. Sus esposas a su lado parec\u00edan sus esclavas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Getting old<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The women of Tuy recall the passing of time in their youth. They remember that the elderly back in their youth wouldn&#8217;t even reach the age they themselves have now. Even if they would, they were <em>&#8220;very old in appearance&#8221;<\/em>; the clothes and their fully wrinkled face and body would make them look so much older. <em>\u201cA 70 year old person was extremely old back then\u201d. \u201c<strong>You were turning old too young<\/strong>\u201d<\/em>, they state.<strong><em>&#8220;They say that once married, you turned old&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">M. compares the state of her mother at the age of 72 to her age and she finds it inconceivable. \u201c<em>I am fully aware of the fact that I am 70 years old, but I consider myself to be young. I ask my older sister if she has ever remembered my young mother and she says never. All my life I remember my wrinkled mother with her little \u201cpa\u00f1uelito\u201d\u2026 <\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>the poor thing had incontinence and she had no diapers, she had nothing, she wiggled and peed everywhere\u2026<\/em>\u201d Recalls with tears in her eyes. <em>\u201cMy mother left me an old woman at 72 years old. My mother was old\u201d.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They do not forget to compare: Men would always have their good quality clothes clean and ironed.
