??\u00a0It was an early Friday morning when we set off to walk a couple of kilometers toward Belesar. The sun had barely risen, and some of us were still half aslee<\/span>, but the crispy air woke us up. The morning mist was all around us, and we were walking as if in a cloud. There were barely any people outside, only a few cows grazing the fields. Even though we were a bit chilly and sleepy, we were on a mission. Equipped with gloves and plastic bags, we were ready to pick up some trash. And trash we picked.<\/p>\n


\n<\/span> Starting at the church, the road was littered with wet cigarette packs, paper so old it broke into pieces when we touched it, cans of beer or Cola, cigarette butts, bags, and random pieces of unidentifiable plastic. Anything and everything. Our initial plan was to separate different types of trash into specific bags; however, we soon realized it was impossible. The paper was wet, plastic bottles and cans were full of dirt; nothing was in a state to be recycled. A sad realization but a necessary one. In the end, it\u2019s not only about separating but separating correctly.<\/span><\/p>\n

As we were slowly nearing Chantada, our bags were getting full, some had already holes in them from the sharp glass pieces we had picked along the road, and we were shocked by the amount of trash we had found. By the time we reached a fork in the road with a sign towards Belesar, each of us had a heavy bag filled to the brim. We weren\u2019t finished, though. So we changed gloves, took out new bags, and continued onwards. This part of the road was much dirtier, paved more with urban waste, less with trash pilgrims might have left behind. We found car disks, nursery pots, bubble wrap. We picked it all up and carried it to the first waste container before the city limits.<\/span><\/p>\n

We had walked the path before and saw there was a lot of trash, hiding in the bushes, overgrown by grass, or just laying in plain sight, but we never imagined we would collect ten bags. We were disappointed. We knew, however, that a good deed was done. While the morning mist gave way to the sun, we cleaned a part of Camino.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

?? Era un viernes por la ma\u00f1ana temprano cuando salimos a caminar un par de kil\u00f3metros hacia Belesar. Apenas hab\u00eda salido el sol y algunos todav\u00eda est\u00e1bamos medio dormidos, pero el aire crujiente nos despert\u00f3. La niebla de la ma\u00f1ana nos rodeaba y camin\u00e1bamos como en una nube. Apenas hab\u00eda gente afuera, solo unas pocas vacas pastando en los campos. Aunque ten\u00edamos un poco de fr\u00edo y sue\u00f1o, ten\u00edamos una misi\u00f3n. Equipados con guantes y bolsas de pl\u00e1stico, est\u00e1bamos listos para recoger algo de basura. Y la basura que recogimos!.<\/p>\n

Comenzando en la iglesia, el camino estaba lleno de paquetes de cigarrillos mojados, papel tan viejo que se romp\u00eda en pedazos cuando lo toc\u00e1bamos, latas de cerveza o refrescos de cola, colillas de cigarrillos, bolsas y piezas aleatorias de pl\u00e1stico no identificables. Nada y todo. Nuestro plan inicial era separar los diferentes tipos de basura en bolsas espec\u00edficas; sin embargo, pronto nos dimos cuenta de que era imposible. El papel estaba mojado, las botellas y latas de pl\u00e1stico estaban llenas de suciedad; nada estaba en un estado para ser reciclado. Una triste realizaci\u00f3n pero necesaria. Al final, no se trata solo de separar, sino de separar correctamente.<\/p>\n

A medida que nos acerc\u00e1bamos lentamente a Chantada, nuestras bolsas se estaban llenando, algunas ya ten\u00edan agujeros por los pedazos de vidrio afilados que hab\u00edamos recogido a lo largo del camino, y nos sorprendi\u00f3 la cantidad de basura que hab\u00edamos encontrado. Cuando llegamos a una bifurcaci\u00f3n en el camino con una se\u00f1al hacia Belesar, cada uno de nosotros ten\u00eda una bolsa pesada llena hasta el borde. Sin embargo, no hab\u00edamos terminado. As\u00ed que cambiamos guantes, sacamos bolsas nuevas y seguimos adelante. Esta parte del camino estaba mucho m\u00e1s sucia, pavimentada m\u00e1s con desechos urbanos, menos con la basura que los peregrinos podr\u00edan haber dejado atr\u00e1s. Encontramos discos de coche, macetas de vivero, pl\u00e1stico de burbujas. Lo recogimos todo y lo llevamos al primer contenedor de basura antes de los l\u00edmites de la ciudad.<\/p>\n

Hab\u00edamos caminado por el sendero antes y vimos que hab\u00eda mucha basura escondida en los arbustos, cubierta de hierba o simplemente a la vista, pero nunca imaginamos que recolectar\u00edamos diez bolsas. Nos decepcion\u00f3. Sab\u00edamos, sin embargo, que se hab\u00eda hecho una buena acci\u00f3n. Mientras la bruma de la ma\u00f1ana dejaba paso al sol, limpiamos una parte de Camino.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
