??\u00a0On Friday, the 7th of October; the team of volunteers in Lugo had the opportunity to visit and talk with the chief of the \u201cAmigos del Camino de Santiago\u201d association based in Lugo. The association was born in 1992 (this year they are celebrating the 25th anniversary) and its aim is to preserve the spirit of the traditional pilgrimage and to assist the pilgrims by organizing some specific activities such as preserving and restoring the path and the navigational system of the way, especially the part in Galicia. They also organize many short hikes along shorter parts of different Caminos every weekend and lead a longer cultural trip once a year for the members of the association.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is important to mention that the people running the association are all volunteers that are working there in their free time driven by their passion for the Camino.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the head supervisor of the association has done all the Caminos more than once, we got many useful tips and information about the history of each Camino, the first pilgrimages and a detailed explanation about how to get the \u201ccompostela\u201d (the document that certifies that a pilgrim has completed the Camino de Santiago) at the end of one’s camino, after a documented hike of at least 100 km. We also had the chance to get to know and also try on the traditional pilgrims’ clothes and walking sticks with the well-known empty pumpkin for water, hanging from them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Overall it was a really interesting and positive experience for us and we are really excited to walk a part of Camino with them the following weekend!<\/span><\/p>\n

??\u00a0El viernes 7 de octubre; el equipo de voluntarios de Lugo tuvo la oportunidad de visitar y conversar con el responsable de la asociaci\u00f3n \u201cAmigos del Camino de Santiago\u201d con sede en Lugo. La asociaci\u00f3n naci\u00f3 en 1992 (este a\u00f1o celebran el 25 aniversario) y su objetivo es preservar el esp\u00edritu de la tradicional peregrinaje y ayudar a los peregrinos organizando algunas actividades espec\u00edficas como la conservaci\u00f3n y restauraci\u00f3n del camino y el sistema de navegaci\u00f3n de el camino, especialmente la parte en Galicia. Tambi\u00e9n organizan muchas caminatas cortas a lo largo de diferentes Caminos cada fin de semana y organizan un viaje cultural m\u00e1s largo una vez al a\u00f1o para los miembros de la asociaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Es importante mencionar que las personas que dirigen la asociaci\u00f3n son todos voluntarios que trabajan all\u00ed en su tiempo libre impulsados \u200b\u200bpor su pasi\u00f3n por el Camino.<\/p>\n

Dado que el supervisor principal de la asociaci\u00f3n ha hecho todos los Caminos m\u00e1s de una vez, recibimos muchos consejos e informaci\u00f3n \u00fatiles sobre la historia de cada Camino, las primeras peregrinaciones y una explicaci\u00f3n detallada sobre c\u00f3mo obtener la \u201ccompostela\u201d (el documento que certifica que un peregrino ha realizado el Camino de Santiago) al final del camino, tras una caminata documentada de al menos 100 km. Tambi\u00e9n tuvimos la oportunidad de conocer y probarnos las tradicionales ropas de peregrinos y los bastones con la conocida calabaza vac\u00eda para agua, colgando de ellos.<\/p>\n

En general, fue una experiencia realmente interesante y positiva para nosotros y estamos muy emocionados de caminar una parte del Camino con ellos el pr\u00f3ximo fin de semana.<\/p>\n
