Weekends are for exploring and wandering around / Los fines de semana son para explorar y pasear

?? Last week literally flew by without noticing – between the work to be done in the office and outside it. We went to Pontedeume, where we successfully “caught” the first pilgrim for a short interview of a couple of minutes. We also ate super tasty traditional Spanish tortillas. Another activity  with other volunteers we participated in a small garbage collection campaign along the sea coast of Caranza, nice, right?

August 15th (el Día de la Asunción o día de la Virgen) is a day to be celebrated in Spain, so we didn’t waste a day and together with the volunteers from Palas de Rei went on a short hike to Ermita de Chamorro, what is  located on Chamorro Mount, and the view from there is definitely worth a visit -beautiful  panorama of the Serantes Valley, the city and Ferrol’s estuary. The present temple is from the end of the fifteenth century or the beginning of the sixteenth. There are different versions of the origin of the name of Chamorro. The most “popular” one is that an endangered fisherman shouted in Galician “xa morro” (I’m about to die)  and he was then helped (saved) by the Virgin.

It is always exciting to discover new places, so on my free time i went to Ortigueira, wich in my opinion is the most marvelous village so far. It has everything – mountains, river, beautiful beaches, impressive cliffs and the most extensive estuary in all of Northern Galicia. It was such a plesure to hike there,by the way. Will visit once more.

?? La semana pasada pasó literalmente volando sin darnos cuenta, entre el trabajo que había que hacer en la oficina y fuera de ella. Fuimos a Pontedeume, donde logramos “atrapar” al primer peregrino para una breve entrevista de un par de minutos. También comimos tortillas españolas tradicionales súper ricas. Otra actividad con otros voluntarios participamos en una pequeña campaña de recogida de basura por la costa del mar de Caranza, bonito, ¿verdad?

El 15 de agosto (el Día de la Asunción o día de la Virgen) es un día para celebrar en España, así que no desperdiciamos ni un día y junto con los voluntarios de Palas de Rei hicimos una pequeña caminata a la Ermita de Chamorro, lo que se encuentra en el monte Chamorro, y la vista desde allí es sin duda digna de visitar -hermosa panorámica del Valle de Serantes, la ciudad y la ría de Ferrol. El templo actual es de finales del siglo XV o principios del XVI. Existen diferentes versiones sobre el origen del nombre de Chamorro. La más “popular” es que un pescador en peligro de extinción gritó en gallego “xa morro” (estoy a punto de morir) y luego fue socorrido (salvado) por la Virgen.

Siempre es emocionante descubrir nuevos lugares, así que en mi tiempo libre fui a Ortigueira, que en mi opinión es el pueblo más maravilloso hasta ahora. Lo tiene todo: montaña, río, hermosas playas, impresionantes acantilados y la ría más extensa de todo el norte de Galicia. Fue un placer ir de excursión allí, por cierto. visitará una vez más.
